Letshwiti, Motlogelwa Join Other African Football Leaders at CAF Elective Congress

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) President, Maclean Letshwiti accompanied by his Vice President 1, Marshlow Motlogelwa will travel to Rabat, Morocco to attend the Confederation of African Football (CAF) elective congress, where South African mining magnate and Mamelodi Sundowns supremo, Patrice Motsepe is set to become CAF President unopposed.
Letshwiti is also seeking to become an executive committee member of CAF, at the much-anticipated Elective Congress slated for Friday, March 12, 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.
Speaking from Doha, Qatar this morning, the BFA President, Maclean Letshwiti said he looks forward to a free and fair elective congress where football will be a unifying factor.
“Earlier this year, I announced my candidacy for CFA EXCO member COSAFA region. This is my first time running for the position, and now more than ever, I think it’s time…it’s time to bring in new ideas, new faces, progressive thinking, and most importantly, progressive action. We need to run football like we run businesses. Only then will everyone benefit accordingly,” said Letshwiti.

BFA VP1, Marshlow Motlogelwa who is expected to leave the country this afternoon at 1430hrs acknowledged his Moroccoan counterparts at the Morocco Football Association for assisting the BFA delegation secure travel visas to the north African country.

“We have a mutual understanding with the Morocco FA, and they have been very helpful in securing our visas. We are COVID-19 free and shall abide by the health protocols to remain healthy. It’s a two-man delegation to the CAF elective congress where our president is seeking to be elected and we are confident through his leadership and our campaign thus far that we will have a seat in the CAF executive committee,” said Motlogelwa.

The BFA president Letshwiti is seeking a seat in the CAF executive committee representing the COSAFA bloc which is allocated two seats.

Meanwhile, Motsepe is expected to start his tenure as CAF presidency after his opponents voluntarily and mutually chose to withdraw their candidature. Motsepe will withdraw his role as Mamelodi Sundowns FC President to devote himself body and soul to his new position. The first year of his presidency would be devoted to visiting all the presidents of federations on the continent to ask them what their priorities are.

Motsepe’s programme, which is based around 10 objectives include introducing video assistant referees, better TV broadcasting of African matches and building at least one stadium according to FIFA standards in each country.

BFA Welcomes New Zebras Head Coach, Morena Ramoreboli

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Morena Ramoreboli as the new Head Coach of the Zebras. This marks an exciting new chapter for Botswana football, as the men’s and women’s national teams recently achieved historic qualifications for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025 – only the second time both teams have qualified in the same year.

Mr. Ramoreboli brings over a decade of top-level coaching experience and holds a CAF A license. His accomplishments include winning two Botswana Premier League titles and securing two CAF Champions League qualifications with Jwaneng Galaxy, achieving significant victories against teams like Orlando Pirates and Wydad Athletic Club. His familiarity with many of Botswana’s players from his time at the club level ensures a seamless transition into his new role.

The BFA has set clear targets for Mr. Ramoreboli, including progressing beyond the group stages at AFCON 2025, collecting at least 12 points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, qualifying for CHAN 2026, and winning the 2025 COSAFA Senior Men’s Challenge. Additionally, improving Botswana’s FIFA ranking to the top 30 in Africa is a key objective.

To achieve these goals, the BFA is committed to providing the necessary resources and support for the Zebras. The Association also calls on all Batswana to rally behind Mr. Ramoreboli and the national teams. Fans are encouraged to attend matches and create an electrifying atmosphere during the World Cup qualifiers. Plans are underway to make travel packages available for supporters to cheer on the teams in Morocco for the Women’s AFCON and in December for the men’s AFCON.

The BFA also appeals to the media to play an active role in building excitement and uniting the nation behind the Zebras and Mares. A collaborative committee will be formed to drive fan engagement and ensure widespread support.

“We are confident that with Mr. Ramoreboli’s vision, experience, and leadership, the Zebras will achieve great success. With unity and the unwavering support of the nation, there is no limit to what we can accomplish,” said the BFA President.
