The Confederation of African Football (โ€œCAFโ€) Annual Club Licensing Continental Seminar successfully kicked off in Cairo, Egypt. The seminar is being attended by the 54 CAF Member Associations, FIFA and sister confederation representatives, FIFPRO Africa, Club Licensing Instructors and Leagues representatives from around the continent.
The seminar takes places as majority of Leagues around the continent prepare for the start of a new season.
The CAF Annual Club Licensing Continental Seminar 2022 provides a platform for Member Associations, CAF, FIFA, sister Confederations, and various stakeholders groups to convene and share club licensing best practices, implementation methods, success stories and challenges.
CAF Executive Committee Member and Vice-Chairman of the CAF Organising Committee for Interclub Competitions and Club Licensing Management System, Colonel Major Djibrilla Hima Hamidou delivered the opening remarks at the seminar.
Colonel Major Hamidou said: “The club licensing system has evolved significantly to become a key tool for the development and professionalisation of football in Africa. CAF wants to see uniformity across our members and also across all CAF competitions both men and women. The aim of CAF is that the club licensing system has an effect and contributes to raising the standards at domestic football level. CAF’s new vision for the professionalization of football is to enhance the pyramid from below, starting with national competitions, hence the new CAF regulatory framework will strengthen the club licensing system for men’s and women’s football in continental and domestic competitions.โ€
This first day, that was driven by the newly-formed CAF Professional Football Department, focused on the regulatory framework of the CAF Club Licensing, CAF Womenยดs Club Licensing Regulations, CAF Catalogue of sanctions, CAF Club Licensing Quality Standard and CAF Stadium Regulations.
CAF Chief Operations Officer Abiola Ijasamni, who attended day one, added: โ€œGlobally, the strength of club football is the backbone of member associations. We cannot achieve our objectives by just ticking the boxes of the Regulatory Framework โ€“ as important as that is โ€“ we have to breed a culture of not just filling the forms, but of monitoring, maintaining and assisting our clubs to reach higher levels.
โ€œThe vision of the President of CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe is to make African football globally competitive: As the Administration of CAF, we have to think about this practically, about what it means and how, our daily actions, contribute towards fulfilling this vision. The Member Associations are key to the success of their Leagues. I hope this seminar will create the necessary interaction and understanding between CAF, Member Associations and Leagues,โ€ Ijasamni said.
The objectives of the continental seminar are:
ยท Present the new regulatory framework for the CAF Club Licensing System for men and women;
ยท Launch the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP);
ยท Conduct training for the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP);
ยท Receive a full update on the situation of the club licensing system from the MAs;
ยท Ensure that the MAs are ready to communicate licensing decisions by the set deadline for engagement of clubs in CAF IC Competitions (Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s);
ยท Exchange knowledge and expertise with the FIFA and sister confederations on club licensing;
ยท Present the new regulatory framework for stadiums; and
ยท Focus on stadium compliance for CAF competitions and cover the stadium inspection procedures.

BFA Welcomes New Zebras Head Coach, Morena Ramoreboli

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Morena Ramoreboli as the new Head Coach of the Zebras. This marks an exciting new chapter for Botswana football, as the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s national teams recently achieved historic qualifications for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025 โ€“ only the second time both teams have qualified in the same year.

Mr. Ramoreboli brings over a decade of top-level coaching experience and holds a CAF A license. His accomplishments include winning two Botswana Premier League titles and securing two CAF Champions League qualifications with Jwaneng Galaxy, achieving significant victories against teams like Orlando Pirates and Wydad Athletic Club. His familiarity with many of Botswanaโ€™s players from his time at the club level ensures a seamless transition into his new role.

The BFA has set clear targets for Mr. Ramoreboli, including progressing beyond the group stages at AFCON 2025, collecting at least 12 points in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, qualifying for CHAN 2026, and winning the 2025 COSAFA Senior Menโ€™s Challenge. Additionally, improving Botswanaโ€™s FIFA ranking to the top 30 in Africa is a key objective.

To achieve these goals, the BFA is committed to providing the necessary resources and support for the Zebras. The Association also calls on all Batswana to rally behind Mr. Ramoreboli and the national teams. Fans are encouraged to attend matches and create an electrifying atmosphere during the World Cup qualifiers. Plans are underway to make travel packages available for supporters to cheer on the teams in Morocco for the Womenโ€™s AFCON and in December for the menโ€™s AFCON.

The BFA also appeals to the media to play an active role in building excitement and uniting the nation behind the Zebras and Mares. A collaborative committee will be formed to drive fan engagement and ensure widespread support.

โ€œWe are confident that with Mr. Ramoreboliโ€™s vision, experience, and leadership, the Zebras will achieve great success. With unity and the unwavering support of the nation, there is no limit to what we can accomplish,โ€ said the BFA President.
