Botswana Football Association (BFA) and Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) on Tuesday the 7th June 2022 held the draw for DTCB Women’s Football Top 8 tournament .
Speaking at the event DTCB Corporate manager Mr Mmopi sited that this milestone started on November 2021 when DTCB together with BFA signed a 3 year sponsorship worth P2 430 000.
The objective of the partnership is to promote gender equality and make football fashionable to women and young girls as well as to try to make it their livelihood. The sponsors have also pledged to purchase the kits for all participating teams.
The winners of the DTCB tournament will walk away with P 25, 000.00 and trophy, the runner ups will take home P15, 000.00 and the third team placed will pocket P 10, 00.00.
The games will commence from the 10th to 12th June 2022 in Lekidi football Centre.

The Mares Drawn In Group B for WAFCON 2024

Botswana’s senior women’s football team, The Mares, will face stiff competition in Group B of the 15th edition of the CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The official draw, held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in SalΓ©, Morocco, set the stage for the tournament, which is scheduled to run from July 5 to 26, 2025. 

The Mares find themselves in a challenging group alongside African football giants Nigeria, who boast an impressive 11 WAFCON titles and are gunning for their 12th. Completing the group are Tunisia and Algeria, both formidable teams in their own right, promising intense competition. 

The draw was part of a ceremony celebrating the growth and vibrancy of African women’s football, with officials emphasizing the tournament’s significance in showcasing the continent’s talent and passion for the sport.
